With this award, Bayer acknowledges Ingenya’s design work carried out for its industrial facility in Costa Rica
San Jose, September 2023.On September 12, Ingenya Consulting received the “Engineering & Technology Partner of the Year 2023” Global Award. This award was granted in recognition of the design of the industrial facility located in the Coyol Free Zone, which is designed with cutting-edge technology and is currently applying for “LEED Silver” certification, as it complies with various sustainability aspects.
Ingenya is a Costa Rican consulting company for the design of industrial facilities that uses an integrated approach encompassing four disciplines: architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical. This multidisciplinary approach makes it easier to face the market’s current challenges and demands.
The Project
Bayer Coyol Greenfield started its design process with a meeting in Finland, just prior to the start of the pandemic in March 2020. This represented an interesting challenge for the project, as most of the work would have to be online. In other words, while the design team was just starting to get used to working online, they would have to develop this challenging project for the company.
"We are very proud to receive this award from Bayer. This is an important milestone for a process we started 25 years ago, focused on perfecting our craft, providing integrated architecture and engineering services specializing in industrial facilities. The Bayer Coyol Greenfield Project was an enormous collaborative effort encompassing Bayer’s teams (global, local and Turku), our own team at Ingenya as well as other stakeholders".
Ingenya designed the facility following “State of the art” criteria, focused on developing cutting-edge infrastructure. In other words, the facility is best-in-class because it was designed using the latest techniques and technologies; which is why the building is recognized as a world-class engineering project. The 28,000 m2 facility was designed over the span of a year and a half, while approximately the same amount of time was involved in its construction.
A team of 36 professionals worked on developing an efficient air conditioning system that allows energy recovery, a system for reusing rainwater and an innovative monitoring system that controls the operation of the administrative building and the cleanrooms, just to mention a few technical features.
“What pleases us most about the work carried out for Bayer is that we were able to design a complex industrial facility within a restricted timeline. The facility was designed to operate efficiently and reliably. The design and planning stages were streamlined in such a way as to complete the work within the agreed timeframe and the structure is now operating functionally and without setbacks, just as Bayer expected,” Bonilla added.
With these awards Bayer acknowledges the outstanding contributions made by global experts to support their ongoing commitment to health and sustainability.
